Sal and Benafsha had successful careers before they decided to pursue opening a medical spa, however, they both knew they wanted to start a business together and had a passion for beauty and wellness. After extensive research, they decided to open Skin Lab & Contour in Danville, California.
The road to success wasn’t easy. Sal and Benafsha faced numerous challenges through learning the ins and outs of the medical spa industry. Nonetheless, they were determined to make their business thrive.
“I’m a little bit more in the real estate aspect of things,” Sal explained in a recent interview. “Bene came up and said, ‘I want to open up a medical spa.’ I said, ‘You find the right location, and if they’re selling the building, I will definitely look into it.’ And next thing you know, a week later, she’s like, ‘I found it!’”
They worked tirelessly to build their brand and create a warm, welcoming environment for their clients and their hard work paid off. Skin Lab & Contour quickly gained a reputation as one of the best medical spas in the area. Sal and Benafsha’s commitment to excellence, attention to detail, and personal touch set them apart from their competitors.
Yet the secret to their success wasn’t just hard work and determination. Sal and Benafsha credit their strong partnership as the key to their success. They support each other, communicate effectively, and compliment one another’s strengths and weaknesses.
We asked Sal what advice he would give someone interested in opening a medical spa – Sal emphasized the importance of possessing specific skills to manage the team and monitor key point indicators, which ensures they are providing optimal services, keeping their employees happy, maintaining their client’s safety, and staying in compliance with regulations. “We monitor a lot, not micromanaging in any way, but we stay on top of our spa,” Sal explained. “We ensure our team goes through the training they need. We have a lot of meetings to make sure everybody’s updated and informed. This industry changes quickly. You need to be really involved in the business.”
While Sal is the business expert, handling finances, marketing, and strategy, Benafsha is the creative force behind Skin Lab & Contour, designing treatments, and ensuring clients receive a personalized experience. Together, they make the perfect team.
